West Anstey Farm Stables is by far the best trekking stables around. They are insured to provide treks for all experiences not just for those confident in canter like most. The only restrictions are children need to be 4 years or older and riders need to be 14 stone or under due to the horses carrying capacity.
The ponies are well cared for and happy, yes the place could do with a lick of paint but who cares as long as the animals are happy.
The area is beautiful, you couldn't ask for a better place to ride, not even the rain spoiled our trek.
Me and my daughter went on Maggie and Sunny with Gwenda as our lead. We have known Gwenda for a couple years now as she is my daughters riding instructor and wouldn't have wished to have anyone else leading us. She is a lovely lady, very kind hearted, bubbly and would do anything for any one. I dont trust my daughter with anyone (not even a school we home ed) but I trust her with Gwenda.
I would reccomend west Anstey stables and gwenda to anybody and after our first hack with them yesterday we will be returning for many more.

A very special stables with gorgeous horses and lovely people who work there. Just of Exmoor so you can ride straight onto the Moor.

The farm itself needs a little TLC but you won't find more friendly people and better looked after horses and ponies. Straight from the stables on to the Moor for trekking. Definitely recommended.

Highly recommended, my two nieces, beginners, had a fantastic trek onto the moor. They came back confidence boosted and full,of praise for the horses and the two stable girls that went with them. Well kept horses and good price. Thank you

Lily (4) had a fantastic 1/2 hr ride out on punky yesterday. With her helmet secure and rainbow wellies, off she went with the biggest smile on her face. She even had 4 little trots..a regular visit to the stables is on the cards everytime she visits Nanny..

These riding stables have been going for many years. The horses are well looked after. The stables maybe rustic, it may need a coat of paint, but the horses welfare is paramount. Your safety is important to Earl and Gwenda as is giving you value for money. Spectacular rides over Exmoor with little to no road work

This was a highlight of our holiday. Everyone was so helpful, friendly, and wanting to give us a good time. Lovely horses and ponies, well cared for, and ideal for our 2 grandchildren and daughter who are new to riding.

Went for my first ride in 25 years yesterday with WAF, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Took two young inexperienced child riders and WAF were able to cater for our different levels of experience on one ride. Staff/owners are careful to match horse/ponies to riders, very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, stables kept clean and tidy; horses/ponies well cared for etc. No hesitation in recommending 100%. As a PS, the scenery is spectacular with access to the open moor about 5minutes from the stables
